Day 16 - June 4, 2008 - Delta Junction to Valdez

After loading some extra fuel in Delta Junction (the rule of thumb in Alaska is, the more miles away from Anchorage or Fairbanks, the higher the fuel price will be), we moved on the Valdez.
This was a very nice section of Alaska, nice views all along this Richardson Highway and not much traffic.
Pictures do not show in great details how good the views were.
Also, the Trans Alaska Pipeline came in view many times (Valdez is were also this pipeline is ending)
We drove for many hours, and places on the map, like Paxon or Glennallen turned out to be no more that a fuel station and a shop.

Just half an our before Valdez, almost on the top of the Thompson Pass, you can access the Worthington Glacier. Only a short (but steep) walk brings you to the glacier from the parking lot.

After arriving in Valdez (guess what, the rain started when we drove into Valdez and never stopped during our stay), we visited the office of the Alaska Marine Highway System to get a refund for our cancelled ferry trip. That went well, they credited the amount to out credit card.

Our campsite for the night was the Good Sam Club Eagle's Rest RV park. Again, the people in the office were very friendly and we had a great stay, on this massive parking lot style campground.
