| Day 8 - May 27, 2008 - Anchorage to Denali National Park. This morning we overslept. We woke up at 8:45, so after one week it looks like we have recovered from our jet lag (10 time zones). Today, we headed for the Denali National Park, with a stop at on Musk Ox farm near Palmer. This farm was the only farm where they raised these amazing animals (more related to sheep as to Ox) for the Qiviut. Eight times warmer than wool and extraordinarily lightweight, Qiviut is one of the finest natural fibers known to man. After this very interesting stop, thanks also to Hannah for her good tour, we proceeded to Denali National park. On our way, we had a real good view of Mount McKinley (also known as Denali). We checked in at the Wilderness Access Center (WAC) for our 2 night stay in the park. The campsite (Riley Creek) was very spacious and the sites were located between the trees. Only, there was no hookup possibility (showers, dump station and potable water however were available). We also booked our shuttle bus for the next day, a 53 mile drive into the park.
